| Finnish punk band, Pax
Americana is one band that I absolutely want to be mentioned. First
time I heard this band was on "Lepakon Hautajaiset" record,
on which they played "Nuori Ja Syrjäytynyt" (Young
And Alienated) -song. It`s stayed on top of my punk list ever since
that moment.
After I heard "Nuori Ja Syrjäytynyt"
I bought their "Paskat Talteen" EP (released 2000).
Pax Americana played quite fast punk with Finnish lyrics, but it`s not
hc. Voacals are clean and you can understand what singer says without
reading lyrics from booklet.
One remarkable thing in Pax Ameriana music is saxophone. This saxophone
works very well in their music and it`s hard to think the band without
this instrument. The vocalist Miikka sings also Finnish
hc bands "Wasted" and "Viimeinen Kolonna".
Lyrics are about nature, peace, money, big companies & authority.
Here is a few translated lyrics parts....
You work to get a car
With which you drive to work
Acid rains and green house effect
Are produced at every job
(Traffic Song from "Paskat Talteen" EP)
Is it jealousy or fear of difference
Or is the disability to control distressing
As they're creating a picture of unemployed youth
As selfish and lazy
The productivity of work is nowadays
so good
That everyone doesn't need to sacrifice themselves
To work from morning to evening
Unless you need a higher living standard
But the more you make money the more you consume
Poverty is environmentalism
In a rush-society no-one has time
To think of a new attitude towards nature
(Young And Alienated from "Lepakon Hautajaiset")
In 2002 the band released "Turhaa Rahaa, Turhaa Työtä"
7" EP. And it continues the same lines than the previous "Paskat
Talteen" release. I have a numbered 94/100 "Puntala-Rock
-special edition" pressing. I believe that mostly Pax Americana
stuff are sold out, but If you are lucky, you can find the band's records
somewhere.
Pax Americana music is positively energetic
and original. I like that. The band has not released any full lenght
albums yet, but hopefully some day...
